As an artist I was interested in the idea of "the Sublime and the Beautiful"; I sought to explore our relationship with the land and natural world by looking at how it had been shaped and mapped over time – by agricultural, social, political, and religious influences.
Philosophically, I was guided by Edmund Burke's "Philosophical Enquiry into the Origin of our Ideas of the Sublime and Beautiful" (1757), and well as the Contemporary Sublime.
A previous major project, Colonisation, contested the position of contemporary textiles whilst investigating its possibilities in relation to the Sublime - awesome qualities of biological warfare; genocide; global epidemics and pandemics. The particular focus for that project was on North America and Canada, through the lens of historical record.
Alongside this, I worked to commission for private clients around the globe. These works are not generally listed on my website.
